Not really pleased with my painting abilities recently, so I tried copying some of the masters. Was an interesting experiment I guess, not sure if I learned anything, but! ...eh.

Photoshop default brush, represent! I GOTTA start using painter. I know I keep saying that...

yes you should start using painter, w/ your painting skills it would make your art look awesome. Photoshop is a good tool to finish your piece but nothing can beat the realistic feel of Painter. I always use painter to paint and PS to finish up and add some texture.

I've recently only begun to draw seriously in ps (rather than opencanvas), yes it sucks that it doesnt' have that oily brush, but what people are saying about making some texture brushes is a great tip (let me know if you need to know how). Yet they probably wont me as stroke realistic as with Painter...

Beautiful exercise! I haven't done this for awhile. You've inspired me to do this again.

I feel exactly as you do about Painter...but seriously, we can always make our own brushes in PS and such? Have you seen the Painter demo that Jason Cahn did for Conceptart.org? He uses those "paper"/texture brushes for blocking in larger areas. I managed to create some similar brushes after watching it just using the brush builder in PS and some texture photos.

I dunno. I'm still with you and I need to just get off my ass and use Painter.

Your rendering is fine. No need to try and improve upon that. :P I think maybe it's your sighting that you need to work on, although I'd have to see the references to be really sure.

painter is for people who don't know how to blend in photoshop YOU DIDN'T HEAR ME SAY ANYTHING. Actually I like Painter a lot--the ability of the canvas to rotate and the scratchboard tools, especially.
